“My husband is dead. I nursed him for 5 years before that. I have an apartment left and a pension of 180 eur. How do I continue to live? Both depression and poverty are visible. ”
“My apartment is in need repairing.. I opened the closet door once and the door was left in my hands ... I looked at them and cryied ... If I couldn't repair my apartment from the salary, so from retirement pension it also wont be posible. I would like to live in a beautiful home where I could be proud, to receive guests and not feel so lonely anymore. ”
“I take antidepressants, I'so lonely. All my loved ones, all friends is already dead. Getting out of the house to people is becoming physically difficult. I cried day and night until I heard about your house idea Orūs Namai. ”
Such and similar stories of older people we receive at least once every couple of weeks. Almost half of Lithuanian seniors live alone in their own homes. Therefore, we invite seniors to rent their old dwellings and move to new apartments, which are equipped for them in the Orūs namai.
The first apartment building for the Orūs namai seniors started in 2018, autumn in Vilnius. Aukok.lt sponsors also contributed to its emergence. It immediately became clear that the most important problem for seniors in Lithuania today is not living in an existing home and maintaining it, but the uncertainty of what to do for an elderly person who has lost his roof over his head for one reason or another or is looking for a safer and more reliable alternative. Therefore, a senior who has fallen into a crisis situation at the Orūs namai may simply rent a home. Unfortunately, all four apartments currently available are already occupied and those who seek help with a sore heart have to be placed in a waiting list, although they need help here and now.
