Save 120 tons of food for the poor (2011.11-2012.09)

Currently, large part of food producers still scrap a large part of food that they are unable or fail to sell, as they have no sufficient information about real opportunities to feed the poor. We can expect that “Food Bank” working actively with food producers will be able to collect 120 tons of food per year from them. This will allow feeding poor people each month 25,000 times!

About the project. We plan that “Food Bank” will meet large Lithuanian food producers and will find the possibilities of giving unsold food to the poor during the project "Save 120 Tons of Food for the Poor". The efficient “Food Bank” network of 175 organizations taking care about poor people operating in 31 Lithuanian cities will be presented during the meetings. The aim of the project is to agree that the unsold food of good condition would go to the tables of the poor and not to the landfills.

Using your support “Food bank” plans each month to collect 10 tons of vegetables, fruit, dairy and meat products, bakery products from food producers and send them to feed those in need. Such additional amount will allow feeding the poor 25,000 times per month. The average value of unsold food saved every month from destruction will amount to 30 thousand Litas.

Where will the support be used? Your assistance is required for partial cover of the rent of the premises where support is administered, support transportation and administrative expenses. Poor family of four people can be fed for 5 days for ten Litas donated to “Food Bank”!
