Every day more and more requests for help are received - to help castrate/sterilize wild cats, take in an abandoned animal from the wild, shelter a pregnant cat, catch and cure kittens. The duty and goal of VšĮ "Rožinė pedutė" is to turn requests for help into success stories. In addition to daily care work, the volunteers of "Rožineše pēdutė" also carry out another very important activity - the program PSP (Catch-Sterilize-Release).
The PSP program helps to control the population of stray cats, and avoids the excess of sick, old kittens on the streets. With every feral cat and kitten sterilized, the burden on shelters is reduced, and cats are given the opportunity to live peacefully, without the cruel consequences of rutting. Uncastrated/unsterilized cats are found with scabies, laceration wounds, which are acquired during fights for the female and the territory. Cats are often hit by cars or injured by malicious persons, kittens are just a step away from going blind due to viral diseases.
Each PSP participant undergoes a full clinical examination. As needed, dental plaque is removed, wounds are treated, limbs are amputated, preparations against external and internal parasites, vaccinations, immunity-boosting agents or medicines are given.
The funds collected during the project contributed to ensuring animal welfare, reducing the number of stray animals, and raising public awareness on responsible animal care.
Achieved results:
Spayed and neutered: 439 cats, thereby reducing their population and preventing unwanted litters.
Treated:129 animals received necessary veterinary care.
Adopted:532 animals, including 6 dogs that were prepared for socialization and future adoption.
Provided animal feed to designated feeding locations and purchased food for animals under care.
