Let's help little Ievute to hear (Sep, 2010)

Ievute was born prematurely and was hospitalized in the intensive care. After her birth the little girl got a dangerous blood infection. Her brain and hearing nerves were damaged, and since that time Ievute cannot hear. She has been diagnosed with pediatric cerebral paralysis. From the time she was born, her mother and kinesiologists have been exercising Ievute every day. Now she crawls and can support herself with her arms and is learning to sit. The only hope for her to be able to hear was a cochlear implant surgery which was performed 10 November, 2010. After the surgery, the little girl will have to undergo at least a seven-year-long rehabilitation.

About the project: It has become common knowledge that the Fulfillment Campaign has grown into a beautiful Christmas tradition during which Lithuanian people share their kindness and help those who are most in need of assistance. However, kindness and help are needed not only during the Christmas season. Let’s support the little ones who are in need of our assistance. We had another sad story of a little person – one year-old Ievute who has cerebral paralysis and could not hear.

The needed cochlear implantation surgery wass very expensive: the new generation cochlear implant system with behind-the-ear language processor costs 98,000 LT for one ear. The health insurance provides 56,000 LT for one surgery. Ievute’s parents had collected another 35,000 LT from friends and acquaintances, but the family still needed 7,000 LT. The family was unable to get the rest of the money because they also have a mortgage. Therefore, we asked all people of good will to help. Thanks to your donations a surgery on one ear was performed and little Ievute is getting used to the new world full of sounds.
