Many adults with severe and complex disabilities in Lithuania have no real choice: they live with their aging parents, who carry a tremendous burden, or in large care institutions that resemble hospitals.
The Shared Living Homes we are creating are focused on human dignity, empowerment, and the possibility of independent living, regardless of the severity of disability. Our model is a social innovation that offers a more effective and humane solution than existing traditional care institutions.
The concept of our homes is based on the following principles:
• Dignity and independence: We provide people with severe and complex disabilities the opportunity to live with dignity, have personal space, and feel like full-fledged masters of their own home.
• Professional care 24/7: We ensure comprehensive, around-the-clock professional assistance and nursing that meets the specific needs of the residents.
• Holistic empowerment: Regardless of disability severity, we empower residents to participate in everyday life—from managing household tasks to social activities and communication.
• Community spirit: We create a cozy, family-like environment where residents and staff feel like a community rather than inhabitants of an institution.
In 2025, our first Shared Living Homes began operating. Seeing the tremendous need and the success of the model, we have set a clear goal: to open a second Shared Living Home in 2026.
