Every day the lives of 1,500 families in Lithuania change as their family member is diagnosed with an oncological disease. Oncology patients and their relatives need to use expert help, legal advice that can solve social and financial issues that are relevant to them. A large proportion of patients and their relatives need psychological counseling to improve their psychological state and emotional well-being.
POLA helps many families with the help of professionals. POLA currently provides the following advice:
• Legal: answer questions you need with health, employment, social security, insurance;
• Psychological: providing oncology patients or their loved ones with professional psychological support when treating and healing makes the process easier;
• Evaluation of treatment alternatives: evaluation of rare conditions, clinical trials, opportunities for treatment abroad;
• Nutrition: discusses nutrition issues with the patient's diagnosis.
A large number of people who calls POLA line, the number of calls is constantly growing, and the number of questions is recurring. A significant proportion of calls are unanswered because lines are often busy. To address this issue, we want to develop a POLA Hotline : Install an answering machine with answers of many frequently asked questions. If necessary, the requesting will be connected for a live conversation with a member of the POLA team supervising a specific issue, who will either provide detailed information or register the requesting one for a free specialist consultation.
The POLA Hotline will improve the quality of life of oncology patients, reduce the financial burden, and provide the necessary legal and psychological assistance. One-on-one counseling will provide information on lifestyles and ways to help you recover or stay in remission.
