One wrong step, a careless driver and a child‘s life has been turned upside down. Two years ago ten-year-old Remigijus Mankus from the village of Jakaiciai in Jurbarkas district was struck by an automobile and had a serious brain trauma (diffuse axonal injury) and spent a long time in a comma. After he woke up from the comma, Remigijus could not speak, could not move his limbs, had to be fed through a feeding tube. During all this time he did not give up and fought for his life with all his strength. In 2010, Remigijus went through a rehabilitation course that was underwritten by state-run insurance; however, Remigijus needed ongoing care, assistance and another rehabilitation course.
About the project: It has become common knowledge that the Fulfillment Campaign has grown into a beautiful Christmas tradition during which Lithuanian people share their kindness and help those who are most in need of assistance. However, kindness and help are needed not only during the Christmas season. Let’s support the little ones who are in need of our assistance. During Christmas time the 2009 Fulfillment Campaign invited people to make donations to help ten children in need, and you have helped them. Unfortunately, Remigijus was not one of those children and donations were requested through aukok.lt.
A 48-day-long course that Remigijus needed cost 9,854.40 Litas. The rehabilitation took place 15 Sep – 2 Nov, 2010. Due to active, combined and continuous rehabilitation course the functional state of Remigijus improved significantly. With maximum help, Remigijus is already able to make several steps.
