One out of five people in Lithuania live in poverty. It is especially difficult for old, sick, lonely and disabled people, who have to make a living from their small pensions (some of them get basic social pension – 100 EUR) or allowance for disablement. This money is used to pay for rent, utilities, medications, so that nothing is left for food. Maltesers carry them warm meals, visit and help to survive.
About the project. The main goal of the project “Meals on Wheels” is to provide food and social care to the most vulnerable groups – the elderly, poor and lonely people. Most of them are ill, have no finances, can not cook themselves and have no families, who could help them. The “Meals on Wheels” project has been running since 1993 and in the meantime is implemented in 15 cities in Lithuania.
Funds will be allocated to lonely, disabled, old, ill people with small incomes, who can not take care of themselves and make warm meals.
