Severe stress is experienced when suffering from cancer due to one's future, lifestyle, social conditions, changed plans, physical changes, spiritual and existential difficulties, so it is especially important to support the psychosocial well-being of oncology patients, reduce tension and increase hope. The Aukok.lt Christmas project would give Lithuanian oncology patients the opportunity to receive especially needed free health services during medical treatment or in remission.
The patient would receive a package of personalized wellness services during the Christmas period (one person would receive: 3 individual relaxation services, 1 balanced specialized nutrition education-seminar "I choose a healthy life" with a nutritionist, Christmas event "Celebrating life" with cooking) and tasting, (the institution's contribution is 5 physical activity services according to individual needs). A total of 140 wellness services would be provided to cancer patients.
Research has shown that wellness, psychosocial and physical activity services for oncology patients, received during and after treatment, improved their physical, emotional condition and quality of life, and reduced disease-related stress and fatigue.
These activities would help:
• improve well-being and recovery, restore lost mobility of body parts (scars, nerve numbness, etc.) to allow further treatment, etc.;
• reduce biosocial stress (insomnia, anxiety, fear, physical discomfort, sleep quality, etc.);
• to encourage the cancer patient to return to a full-fledged social life (work/professional, social activities, studies, etc.).
