In Lithuania every fifth person lives in poverty. Even in the capital city thousands of families and single people are starving. Several hundred poverty-stricken inhabitants of Vilnius gather everyday at the charitable cafeteria on Liepkalnio Street. Here not only are they treated to a hot dinner, but they can also receive household items, do laundry, wash themselves, receive legal assistance, etc. At the support center Ekklesia, a person living in poverty can meet peers and the kind employees of the center. Here he no longer feels lonely, he regains hope and self-esteem. Some clients are able to find jobs again and integrate into society.
About the project: Currently, everyday the charitable cafeteria provides a hot meal to 300-400 poor people (lonely, socially marginalized people, retirees and disabled). For people in poor health the foundation delivers food to their homes.
Funds were used to maintain the support center (to pay utilities) and to cover food transportation expenses for three months.
