Representatives of the government state that child guardianship is the most favourable type of guardianship for a child. Practically, guardians taking other people's child into their family undertake the responsibility of this child's welfare. State gives 520 Lt for guardian family to satisfy child's needs. While the expenses of a child are estimated 1080 Lt in a guardian family and about 3000 Lt in the institution. Although since 2008 guardians receive free consultation, self-help, learning services, the work of guardians is still not noticed. As a result, the number of families taking care of other people's child is markedly decreasing.
About the project. With this project we aim to turn society's attention to the importance of guardians and their work by supporting them both morally and financially. It is the first time when we seek to give only once material support: children will spend a week in a camp while their guardians will have an opportunity to take a rest from a daily work ruotine.
Funds will be allocated to compensate fully or 90% expenses of camp for children being under family guardianship (accommodation, food, transport, other means).
It is planned that 15 children (6-16 years old) that are under family guardianship in Vilnius, Širvintos, Trakai districts will participate in the program. Children are recommended and selected to take part in this project by Child Rights Protection departments in these municipalities.
