A better life for children (Sep, 2009-Dec, 2010)

Around 30% of children in Lithuania live below the poverty line, more than 5,500 live in foster homes. The goal of this project was to provide the opportunity of a better life for children of foster homes. Your donations were used for educational purposes in Pabradė and Paparčiai foster homes: training, occupational activities with specialists for the children and training of the foster home staff. In total, 36 children and 51 staff members participated. According to the latter, after the classes the children became better, now they can control their behavior better.

About the project: The goals of the project were to provide the opportunity of a better life for the children of foster homes, to help the workers of the foster homes to solve psychological problems of their pupils, to help prepare the pupils for independent living so that when they grow up they could form full-fledged families, would have constant jobs and be an equitable part of the social life. In Lithuania the pupils of foster homes lack social skills, such as self appreciation, development of positive emotions, empathy and security. Also, the pupils have psychological problems, as often they have gone threw serious emotional traumas. Their motivation to learn and achieve goals is very low.

The project was implemented in Pabradė and Paparčiai foster homes. The children were taught various classes, namely: self appreciation, development of positive emotions, empathy and security, giving help, constructive solutions to arising problems, occupational orientation, building effective job search skills, discussion of maturing, planning a family, promotion of self-support in various situations in life and social understanding.
