Social taxi is the only social innovation in Lithuania that runs in already 12 Lithuanian municipalities, allows people with disabilities to become mobile and independent in planning their daily activities. This service ensures efficient organization of trips for people with disabilities to places of social and economic employment (work, hospital, educational institutions, cinema, shop, park, etc.). A social taxi provides a shuttle service with an assistant, so the person is not only transported, but also accompanied, get help to to leave the house or to enter a building unsuitable for people with disabilities. Shuttle and escort services are provided 24/7 at a time. Social taxi was established in 2012 as one of the programs of the National Institute for Social Integration. During the 9 years of operation, the program has grown significantly, therefore the Public Institution Social Taxi was established.
