PO "Written Hands"

Back

Since 2019, Inscribed Hands has been running regular sessions in prisons with the help of volunteers to help people in prison build new lives without crime.

Mission: Through non-formal education and volunteering, to create opportunities for people in prison to change their lives and thus contribute to a more understanding and safer society.

Goals: 1) To reduce recidivism in Lithuania; 2) To reduce social exclusion of incarcerated people from the rest of society.

We do this in two ways. Firstly, our volunteers regularly conduct non-formal education activities in Lithuanian prisons to build a community between prisoners and the rest of society. These activities also develop a range of soft and hard skills that help the participants after they leave prison. Looking at the last couple of years, we run more than 100 activities every year in 4-6 different prisons. The activities range from psychological well-being, self-knowledge and creativity training to financial and computer literacy, sports activities and book clubs. Secondly, through various initiatives, we aim to change the negative attitudes of society towards people in prison. We create publications, a podcast, educational content on social media, seminars and workshops that gradually change the attitudes towards people in prison.
